Medicare in Georgia
What’s different about Medicare in Georgia.
Medicare Parts A and B are the same in every state, but plan choices, Medicare Supplement rules and help with costs depend on where you live. Here’s what Georgia residents should know.
Medicare Supplement under 65Disability or ESRD
Georgia requires insurance companies to offer Medicare Supplement coverage to people under 65 who have Medicare because of a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Premiums can be higher than for people 65 and older, so it’s worth comparing companies carefully.
Help paying Medicare costsMedicare Savings Programs and Medicaid
Georgia’s Medicare Savings Programs can help pay your Part B premium and, for some people, other Medicare costs. You apply through Georgia Gateway or your local Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) office, and GeorgiaCares SHIP can help with the application.
Plans in your countyMedicare Advantage and Part D
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, so what’s available in one part of Georgia can differ from another. I compare the plans in your ZIP code against your doctors, prescriptions and pharmacy.

Where to enrollOfficial Marketplace
Georgia runs its own state-based Marketplace, Georgia Access (888-687-1503). Income-based tax credits are only available through Georgia Access or its approved partners, and I can help you compare plans and enroll.
2027 Open EnrollmentStarts November 1, 2026
Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage begins November 1, 2026 on Georgia Access. Check Georgia Access for the final deadline and for when to enroll to have coverage start January 1.
MedicaidNot expanded
Georgia has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so many adults under 65 with low incomes don’t qualify for Medicaid. If your income is at least the federal poverty level, you may qualify for Marketplace tax credits instead.

Questions
Common questions from Georgia clients.
Do you charge for your help in Georgia?
No. My help is free. I’m paid by the insurance company you choose, and your premium is the same whether you enroll with me or on your own.
Can you help me if I just moved to Georgia?
Yes. Moving to a new state usually gives you a Special Enrollment Period to change your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, and it’s a good time to review your Medicare Supplement too. Call me soon after your move so you don’t miss the window.
Do we have to meet in person?
No. Most clients meet with me by phone or video, and I can meet in person when that works better for you.
What is Georgia Pathways?
Georgia Pathways to Coverage is a limited Medicaid program for some adults with low incomes who meet a work or activity requirement of 80 hours a month. It’s currently approved through December 31, 2026. You apply through Georgia Gateway.
Is there a Medicare Supplement “birthday rule” in Georgia?
No. Georgia doesn’t have a birthday or anniversary rule for Medicare Supplement plans, so outside your open enrollment period or a guaranteed-issue situation, you may have to answer health questions to change plans.
